Co-Motion is a leader in top quality tandems, and this is a new model for them: The Java. It’s parts package is similar to Co-Motion’s classic Speedster model, but the Java has a new oversized and butted cromoly steel tubeset used in the frame . The most exciting feature of the java is the wider tire clearance built into the frame! The frame and fork can fit up to a 2.0″ width tire. We built this particular one using Velocity Dyad rims that can accept anywhere from a 28mm width tire (standard for road tandems) up to a 2″ width … Continue reading
Here is a Co-Motion NorWester we recently built up for a customer. This is a frameset we have had in the shop for a few years, and it is made a bit differently than current 2013 Norwesters. Just the right rider came in looking for a tough commute bike, and we were able to make an attractive deal to get him on the US-made NorWester! It turned out looking great, with black Shimano 105 parts on a black frame, and the right amount of silver here and there. The Shimano XT mountain bike derailler is on this bike to allow … Continue reading
One of Co-Motion’s specialties is steel framed touring bikes, and this NorWester is a great example. The NorWester has a lightweight frame, perfect for long distance riding with minimal baggage. It is svelte enough to be a nimble daily rider, but still stronger than your average road bike, so it can handle a set of panniers. For fully-loaded touring, look at Co-Motion’s Americano or Pangea. Co-Motion does have excellent parts packages that they suggest for their models, but they aren’t the only ways to build their bikes. On this NorWester, we chose to build it with a custom batch of … Continue reading
This is one of Co-Motion’s new Java tandems with the 29er wheel size. One of the less obvious benefits of 29 inch wheels is that you can use either wide off-road tires or thin road tires on them. Co-Motion saw that this feature is especially cool for tandems! Now a couple can use the same bike as a touring bike with 32mm road tires and as a gravel-rider with wider 2.1″ off-road tires. The same tandem can do a century one weekend and ride rails-to-trails type terrain the next weekend. The Co-Motion Java comes stock with dual disc brakes. This … Continue reading
Here’s a new Co-Motion Corretto with a black/red/yellow fade paintjob. It will do double duty as a commuter bike and a road machine for racking up training miles. The Corretto frames are a exclusive design by The Hub, and are built of Reynolds 853 tubing. This Corretto was built with our standard SRAM Rival package, using a compact (50/34 tooth) crankset, FSA cockpit parts, and Shimano RS-10 wheels. Correttos are uniquely comfortable, and a great value for a US-made bike. Tweet
