Co-Motion Periscope TandemWhat’s that you say? A tandem that can accommodate family members of any size? It can ride over nearly any terrain? Is this some sort of miracle bike that can fly and do whatever the rider wants? Yes, except it can’t fly. And it can’t go mountain biking. What it can do is let riders of all abilities stay together over a variety of terrain with precise Co-Motion design and craftsmanship. For these reasons, groups and riders of all kinds have the Co-Motion Periscope. One group that has purchased Periscopes from us is the Delta Gamma Center (DGC). The DGC has an entire fleet that they use to give rides to blind children. Because of the range of ages and sizes of children in the DGC program, the fact that any person between 4/5 years old on up to 99 years old can fit on the back of a Periscope suits the DGC well. Additionally, the Periscope suits the needs of the DGC because of its excellent durability and ease of handling. Mechanic and Co-Motion Espresso owner John Cozad gave us a good description of Delta Gamma Center bringing their Periscopes into The Hub.
When the DGC people bring in their tandems for service, they elicit more remarks among our other customers than anyone else. Something about a whole row of brightly colored tandems on our floor is quite an eye catcher. Whenever we explain to folks what the bikes are all about, the most common comment is, “Oh, I’ve seen them in Forest Park.” The Hub crew is very enthusiastic to work with Lighthouse for the Blind and to bring about awareness of the abilities, not disabilities, of visually-impaired children.
The most important feature on the Periscope is that it is easily adjustable using quick release clamps for most sizes of riders on the front and on the back. Adults and teenagers between about 4’ 10” to 6’ 4”can fit on the front. It comes in a steel or aluminum frame, flat or drop handlebars, and 26” or 700c wheels. The two stock colors are champagne and metallic blue; although, every Co-Motion color is available for a custom color charge. The component selection on the stock bike is such that you will be able to keep it for the rest of your life. Come try one out.
