BMX BikesBMX (Bicycle Motocross). With its roots in 1960s kids bikes such as the Schwinn Stingray, the BMX bicycle has become a specialized industry unto itself. The defining characteristics of this bike are 20-inch wheels, motorcycle-style handlebars, and a single gear. Still developed primarily for the juvenile market, BMX bicycles are now available with 16- and 12-inch wheels for younger kids and specifically designed for the flatland, trail, and freestyle sectors of the sport as well as general use. Built around an extremely rugged frame, these bikes may include handlebar rotors and foot pegs for trick riding, durable high-flange 48-spoke wheels for jumping, or very lightweight components for racing. |
